MATT KOZAR

guitars

ABOUT HIS BRAVE HISTORY-

"Scott Loose and I were playing in another band in 2006-2007 called Human Theory, and that band fizzled out so to speak. So I started to rehearse and learn new songs with Brave in 2007, which became "Monuments", and have never looked back!"

FAVORITE BRAVE SONG TO PERFORM-

"Trapped Inside is always a fave.  That song has been around for quite some time but it always gets a great reaction and is just fun to play.  A newer favorite would have to be Thousand Miles of Sand (from The Calm / The Storm).  It’s challenging but fun to pull off live with all of the different tones and sounds that we need to emulate from the album."

OTHER MUSIC PROJECTS-

"I'm currently serving as a contributor to Witnesses , which varies between doom metal offerings and sonic landscape/soundtrack tunes.  Previously played bass for a bit in (Brave violinist) Suvo’s other band, Unring the Bell, and played in a number of other bands over the years - aforementioned Human Theory (rock), Adorn (indie rock), Time of the Wolf (metal), Betray My Trust (rock), and Forty Days Longing (doom/metal)."

Matt has had many musical influences over the years...a huge fan of the 90's grunge movement with bands like Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden.  His music pallete stretches from bands like Black Sabbath and AC/DC to Dead Can Dance and Slowdive.  Currently he is listening to, and inspired by, Hammock, God is an Astronaut, If These Trees Could Talk, and a variety of works by Johann Johannsson.

When asked about his favorite guitarists, he says, "David Gilmour, Jerry Cantrell, Zakk Wylde, and the Edge.  It’s an eclectic list but I draw on the different styles and tones that each of these, and other guitarists, are able to achieve.  I’m less interested in what they play and focus more on how they play and the unique textures, tones and vibe that these and other guitarists create." He also adds that the first concert he ever attended was Van Halen, but it was the opener, Vince Neil that made ths show a stand-out for him.  "...the guitarist with Vince Neil was Steve Stevens, who is also a master of transforming the guitar into otherworldly sounds.  My pursuit in transforming your typical guitar into unique and interesting sonic landscapes was probably piqued because of this show".

When not playing music, Matt enjoys running and playing golf. He is also the first to let you know he is a "huge nerd". He enjoys reading and collecting comic books and venturing to Disney, Universal or ANY amusment park with the family.

Matt Kozar proudly uses a Blackstar HT Stage 100, with effects by T.C. Electronics, and Ibanez.
